Cookingworkshop in Thailand Cook Thai Yourself Chiang Rai.If you’re in the area, you might as well follow a cooking workshop with a colleague in Thailand.

And what kind of one! If you come close to Chiang Rai, do a cooking workshop with Cook Thai Yourself. It is a mixture of theatre, cooking, a lot of craziness and gives a nice impression of the country itself. It started at the hotel pickup. Apparently there was a special music match between a number of bands that still played on classical instruments. Tik came in and dived right in and before we knew it we were posing between the bands with just not the instruments in our hands. In short, Tik is a lady who takes care of things and is present!

An energy level that is special for her age. In the car on the way to the local market to do some shopping. At this local market come only the Thai themselves. You won’t meet any Other Westerner here either. Then you can do the shopping yourself under the guidance of Tik. She’ll give you a note with the techniques of bargaining and go buy the ingredients.

That’s an experience in itself. Because do you need moo (pork) or krung (shrimp) now? What exactly you’re going to cook depends on what you’d like to eat. Our menu was made with shrimp, pomelo, fish and chicken. By the way, you will come across the most special ingredients on the market that you will not see here soon. “Tong of the dog” for example but also Maeng Da. A large water beetle from which a spicy dip sauce  is made.

If you’ve got it all together, it’s back in the car and you’ll find out that Tik is also an official tour guide. So she takes you to some nice places in Chang Rai. But then ‘hurry-hurry’ time to cook! Tik lives with her husband Martin just 20 minutes outside the center of Chang Rai. In their kitchen we work with the ingredients we have bought on the market and make among others.
