Soylent is cheaply available and promises to provide good nutritional value. It’s a white liquid that tastes like a cake batter. Thanks to Soylent, it is already possible to eat for less than € 2 per day per person, so this hardly has to cost anything. Is Soylent the future of food?

Use of soy and dietary supplements

Soylent is a product of Rob Rhinehart, he developed the liquid and says he did so because he didn’t have the time and money to run errands, cook and eat. He therefore devised a composition of different nutrients, which helps him to eat as quickly and cheaply as possible. Soylent is a thick white liquid that contains, for example, 2.4 grams of sodium, 75 micrograms of molybdenum, 200 grams of carbohydrates, 18 milligrams of iron, 50 grams of protein, 400 milligrams of magnesium, 5 grams of fiber, 1.7 milligrams of riboflavin, 65 grams of fat and 15 milligrams of zinc. There are 32 key ingredients, in addition to 7 extras to go through life healthier. They are sellers of food supplements and chemical companies that supply the substances, in order to be able to put Soylent together.

Nutrient deficiency

Despite the quite rich diet, it is not yet clear whether there is a risk of deficiencies of other nutrients. Several experts have indicated that this is indeed enough to be used for a lifetime, others indicate that there are no substances that we will build up deficits from over time. The deficiencies could affect our blood pressure and liver, although we won’t notice that as soon as we use Soylent. Moreover, it is not without risk to experiment with nutrients, raw potassium is radioactive. As developer of Soylent, Rhinehart indicates that he studies all kinds of studies and he regularly gets tested well.

Is Soylent eating the future?

In this respect, Soylent seems to have potential as a food for the future, for example the product has already received an official nutritional label.

The FDA in America has indicated that Soylent does indeed contain about the nutrients it promises. Meanwhile, more and more people (especially in America) are using Soylent, in the Netherlands there is not really a breakthrough yet. However, there is a good chance that the product will blow over over over time, in which case Soylent has an opportunity to conquer Europe and the rest of the world.
